Bonus stimulates Queensland sex trade

The Rudd Government's $42 billion bonus package has proven more stimulating than expected, with some South East Queensland brothels crediting the cash injection with a major rise in trade.

Rachel Love, general manager of the Pentagon Grand in Ashmore, on the Gold Coast, said although it may not have been the PM's intention, many Queenslanders were using their $900 bonuses to give the nation's economic wounds some sexual healing.

"Around Christmas time with the first government injection we got, our figures went sky-high... and then in the last few weeks the numbers have just gone up and up," Ms Love said.

She said her establishment had recorded a 27 per cent increase in takings since the latest stimulus package started to filter into Australians' bank accounts.

"I think whole intention of it (the bonus) was to keep it in the country and it definitely has, whether people are spending it on entertainment, a holiday, themselves - or a bit of lust."

But how much bang can you get for your $900 stimulus buck?

"They could come in here and spend an hour in the penthouse suite or the ones that really want to really enjoy themselves could book a couple of girls and really fulfil a fantasy," Ms Love said.

"But what I have noticed is a lot of the regulars who would usually, say, book in for half an hour now book in for an hour."

A manager of Gold Coast brothel Bliss at Burleigh said the first government cash injection last year had led to a busier weekend than any he had seen during an Indy Carnival.
